S o f i a   E S S A I E D

My background is rather atypical. I didn't study fashion or jewellery design. I studied musicology, sociology and anthropology. I've only been designing jewellery and accessories for 3 years, after more than fifteen years as a teacher. I use a technique that I learnt on the job... To imagine a piece, I never start with a drawing, but rather with a knot that I make and undo, or a combination of colours that I want to try out. The most important thing for me is the choice of colours... always an unlikely combination.
My pieces are all entirely hand-woven. I work mainly with silk satin cords. The sea was my main source of inspiration for creating this capsule, hence the name JELLYFISH for the series of necklaces and bracelets. The pieces are designed to be worn on their own or in an accumulation, allowing each person to have a unique look. What I really enjoyed about this project was imagining new shapes and unique pieces, while retaining the DNA of my work and my creations (woven, colourful and timeless pieces).
I hope that those who discover this capsule will appreciate the unique and singular character of each creation, as well as the expertise and the many hours of work that went into producing each piece.
